Warriors match Clips offer for Azubuiki

Turns out that the Warriors did in fact match Azubuiki's 3 year deal that the Clippers offered.  What does this mean to the Magic?  Well according the to the Contra Costa Times, Evans hadnt officially signed yet with the Warriors yet either

The Riverside Press Enterprise reported [Evans] signed for three years, $6.4 million. But he has not signed the deal, the source said. The numbers were settled on before Evans backed out. Why? You’re right. He wants more money.

So, here’s the deal. If Evans wants too much, the Warriors will match Kelenna Azubuike, who plays the same position. If Evans takes the offer, they will sign him and let Azubuike go to the Clippers, who signed him to the offer sheet for three years and just over $9 million. The Warriors aren’t jumping too much higher, if at all. He certainly won’t be getting the deal Azubuike will. Evans turns 30 in November. Azubu ike turns 25 in December.

This all has to go down by Friday, the Warriors’ deadline for matching Azubuike.

So if the Warriors decide not to pick up Evans, what do you see the Magic doing?

One of the best insiders for the Dallas MAvericks, David Lord at dallasbasketball.com suggest that the Mavs should go after him.

The Mavs could trump Golden State's offer and make him a 25-percent larger offer, with a three-year, $8M deal starting at almost $2.5M, and use Eddie Jones' contract as the match in a sign-and-trade to gain the cap ability to add him.

Why would Orlando cooperate? Orlando – a legit contender in the East - might see Jones as a possible veteran contributor and inexpensive one-year replacement for Evans. (For what it’s worth, in DB.com’s conversations with Jones, he would love to find a way to be nearer his wife and children in Miami.) If that's not incentive enough, a payment of $2M cash along with Jones would clearly give the Magic a no-cost-to-them offer, and anything beyond that (a second-rounder, or more cash) guarantees the Magic something for their trouble even if they don't want Jones.

Given what the Mavs already has at that position, a plethora of SG spares, I dont really see why the Mavs make this move.  But I wanted to get see what ya'll thought about this deal above as well.

Poll
From the Magic perspective, would you do the deal proposed with the Dallas Mavericks, the way that David Lord suggests above?

I think Evans works in Dallas

But I don’t see why the Magic would help him get there. The reason they aren’t re-signing him outright is because of the glut of two guards they already have: Bogans, Lee, Pietrus, and Redick. Getting another one in return - an old, unproductive one at that - doesn’t make much sense.

Include Brandon Bass and my tune changes completely.

He signed with the Hawks

and let’s face it… Mavs aren’t throwing away Bass. Mo isn’t particularly useful for many teams, and had the Hawks not clusterfked the Childress situation, he wouldn’t be there either.

That's a kind way to put it

Hahaha

yes, yes, we can. Personally, I’m a Kings fan but the Magic are ony my short list of overtly appreciated teams.. they always theam to have at least two players I like for reasons that are not necessarily basketball related. Add the Spurs, and another two teams that vary based on their current player makeup.
While the Kings are out of contention, I can wish for the Magic to improve themselves. I wish I could think of the perfect four for your system that’s out there (I still consider Shard a 3), and I love the turkey-glue assist factory. I really wish SVG’d break out JJ for a few games though. I still say the Magic should make a swing for Moore. too bad you don’t have the assets for Diaw or Mike Miller.
Brad Miller would be a phenomenal fit, actually, but Magic can’t make a play for him with your current assets (not enough removeable contract space). Pryzbilla? Is he available? That would work, that would work well. David Lee not so much. Jeff Foster yes, but dude wants to die a Pacer. Why am I naming all white guys? Kwame Brown? anyone? anyone?..... Beuler? Do the grizzlies consider Warrick part of the longterm? Actually.. how ironic would a play for Darko be? But he would be a bad fit. Carl Landry? eh. Justin Williams? unh-unh. Nenad Krstic! Can his knee hold up? That would work well.

Magic need a passing big who can get up and down the floor.

Ha! Weird realization – Magic + Warriors would make a great team. Ahh, hell, let’s not get into that.

Yeah, that's why I said not to get into it

Because a Phoenox/Magic combo would be tormentuous. Nash+Shard+Turkgolu+Amare+Howard? Oh man. Oh man oh man. Yeah, fifty more combinations just popped up in my head.

You know what would be sweeeeet? A one-week summer tourney run like a fantasy league – every team drafts any players, and it’s a single elimination tournament. Winner gets the first draft pick, and winning players get like a million bucks a pop or something. Awesomeness. It would never work, but how sweet would that be.
