The Orlando Magic ended the year 2008 on a high note, dominating the Chicago Bulls, 113-94. The Magic were led by Rashard Lewis, who scored a game-high 21 points. Lewis said after the game ..
"Especially in the first half, I felt like I wasn't going to miss a shot," Lewis said. "When I missed one, I was more surprised than anything."
Give Orlando credit for not letting the tough Detroit loss linger .. a defeat that ended their seven game winning streak. Instead, the Magic arrived in the Windy City ready to begin a new winning streak and did so in impressive fashion, jumping on the Bulls from the get-go.
It didn't take long (just over 4 minutes into the game) for Orlando to grab a double-digit lead. The Magic made an effort to dump the ball inside to Dwight Howard at the on-set of the contest, and he responded by scoring 5 quick points. Once Superman got going in the paint, the perimeter opened up, allowing Sweet Lew to do his thing .. sniping the Chicago defense with deadly accuracy from the outside.
Howard commented afterwards about Lewis ..
"He's been leading our team in scoring almost all this month," Dwight Howard said. "He and Jameer (Nelson) are the reasons why we've been winning a lot of games."
Lewis' play in the first-half (scoring 16 of his 21 points in the first two quarters) was all she wrote, as the Magic held a commanding 65-38 lead at half-time and coasted in the second half for the victory.
Seven Orlando players finished the game in double-figures, including Polish standout Marcin Gortat .. who pitched in with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Rookie Courtney Lee also had a nice outing, adding 12 points to the overall cause.
The Magic face off against the Miami Wades Heat tomorrow night, a team that has been playing solid basketball as of late .. their play highlighted with a victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers two days ago, 104-95. Expect Orlando head coach Stan Van Gundy to be pumped facing off against his former employer once again, even if he doesn't want to admit it.
