Previous Meetings:
November 1st: Magic 121, Kings 103

The Sacramento Kings may have a record that's nearly the total opposite of the Orlando Magic's, but they aren't to be taken lightly. They beat the Lakers earlier this year and are fresh off a fairly convincing win over the Dallas Mavericks in their last outing. The Magic need to be wary. The Kings are playing better defense under new head coach Kenny Natt, who took over for former Magic guard Reggie Theus after Theus was fired earlier this season. Theus was still at the helm the first time these teams met. So, I mean, things have changed. A bit.

Don't get me wrong. The Magic are clearly the superior team and, based on talent alone, they should win this game fairly easily. The problem is that this game is the only game on this four-game road trip that isn't against a legit title contender. If the Magic are looking ahead to Friday and Saturday, they're liable to get themselves embarrassed.

You know me. Always looking for the negative.

(That's not true. Just a realist, friends.)

Tip's really late since the game's on the West Coast. Go Magic, and beware Kevin Martin.

UPDATE: Crack analysis of tonight's game from the Hardwood Paroxysm folks:

IF PUNY KINGS BRING DOUBLE TEAM, HOWARD GIVE TO JAMEER! JAMEER HOWARD'S FRIEND! HE SHOOT LONG WAYS! HEDO SAYS TO TAKE REVENGE ON KINGS FOR NOT WANTING HEDO. HOWARD NO CARE ABOUT HEDO'S CONTRACT HISTORY. HOWARD SMASH! Then Howard go home read Bible. Praise be to the Lord. ... (Howard smash!)

Outstanding.

It's not just K-Mart

Hawes is playing well as of late also.

You are kind of negative

But what do you expect when you care about a team sucks for over a decade. Anyway, I can’t imagine they are looking past the Kings. I’m hoping that their goal is to simply go undefeated on this trip and not to just beat the contenders of the West. Unlike LA and Dallas, Orlando is in a tight conference race where every game seems to matter now.

I expect Orlando to come out to a huge early lead, start playing sloppy in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and then turn it up a notch in the 4th to beat the Kings by 10-15 points. We’ve seen that scenario quite a few times this season.

You need to look for the negative and keep things real.

Part of being an objective writer.

As for the Magic, they should smash the Kings tonight but nothing is a guarantee in the NBA. That’s the truth.

Eh, forget that

I write for a pretty mediocre D-II athletic program. I look for the positives in everything, even a 35 point blowout.

by magic fanatic on Jan 13, 2009 2:25 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Eh, probably shouldn't say

Especially being that I’m staying very positive by calling them mediocre.

Fair enough.

Don’t blame you for having to stay discreet. I don’t have that same type of luxury over at Scout.com ..

Just read your stuff over there

I could tell it was your writing even if you didn’t have your name at the top. Of, course, I’ve always been taught that it was a good thing.

The Four Factors. You guys kill me, I hate those advanced basketball statistics.

Hah.

It’s becoming more mainstream (and should be). Raw data just doesn’t cut it anymore when analyzing teams or players. Just my two cents.

Check out my site tonight for an old school pic of young Hedo owning the Magic...

Leave a comment on the site with the 5 Orlando Magic players in the picture and win a prize… (or a shout out on the site)

I had to cheat...

so I won’t say anything. I had 4 of the players nailed, but number 40 threw me for a loop.

On a side note, in looking at Magic’s all time roster, I totally did not remember Kenny Smith or B.J. Armstrong playing for the Magic.

by funny80sguy on Jan 13, 2009 7:28 PM EST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ugh .. Kenny Smith.

The vagabond who had the gaul to make a game-tying three pointer to send Game 1 of the NBA FInals to overtime. I know, I know .. Nick Anderson should have made the free throws but I digress.

The Eddy Curry stage of his career was a dead giveaway.

oh lulz

Hardwood Paroxysm always has a…unique way words. In describing tonight’s match-up between the Magic and Kings:

DWIGHT SMASH PUNY HUMANS! PUNY HUMANS TALK ABOUT ANDREW BYNUM! PUNY HUMANS TALK ABOUT GREG ODEN! HOWARD STRONGEST! TONITE HOWARD GET BRAIDY HAIR BRAD MAN. HOWARD NO LIKE BRAIDY HAIR BRAD. BRAIDY HAIR BRAD SMELL LIKE HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS! HOWARD SMASH PUNY BRAID HAIR! HOWARD ALSO FACE SHOCK AND/OR HAWES. HAWES NO MATCH FOR HOWARD, EVEN IF HOWARD NO POSSESS SHORT-RANGE, MEDIUM RANGE, OR LONG-RANGE JUMPER! IF PUNY KINGS BRING DOUBLE TEAM, HOWARD GIVE TO JAMEER! JAMEER HOWARD’S FRIEND! HE SHOOT LONG WAYS! HEDO SAYS TO TAKE REVENGE ON KINGS FOR NOT WANTING HEDO. HOWARD NO CARE ABOUT HEDO’S CONTRACT HISTORY. HOWARD SMASH! Then Howard go home read Bible. Anybody else enjoy watching Kevin Love?

I did pick him up for fantasy, but nonetheless, everytime I watch him play he’s going HARD. I’d trade Gortat + J.J. in a heartbeat for him. In 5 years he’s going to be TOUGH!

time game, 8 seconds left, he fouls out, he grabs the ball spins around with it deciding whether or not to toss it into the crowd

thinks better of it given the situation…

raymond felton to hit a game winner to beat the pistons.

Magic 7 1/2 point favorites over the Kings

The Magic have not been successful in Sacramento over the years… they have lost 12 of their last 13 games there. Hopefully, that’ll change tonight (as long as the Magic come ready to play, it will), just like in San Antonio last Sunday, where the Magic had lost 16 of their last 18 there prior to Sunday’s win.

Kings announcers...

“Trust me, Dwight Howard is the real deal. He has no peers, other than maybe Lebron James.”

I’ll take that…

Another quick start for the Magic tricks. I like!

3 TOs already for the Magic

really excellent ball-handling skills.

Jesus, the Kings are 8-9 from the floor. Defense, Magic!! Good God.

Ok, I had to watch the Cavs for a min..

Lebron just picked me up a HUGE triple double for fantasy, should move up a few points in the standings! Now it’s all magic, haha…

Has anybody else notice . . .

That the Suns always seem to grab those Magic players that Orlando grows to disdain by the end of their tenure?

Penny, Grant Hill, Shaq . . . T-Mac is bound to be next.

Watch out, no-neck hit his first shot attempt...

his green light is now on for the rest of the half.

Kings announcers… “Of course, Anthony Johnson has been making that shot for years” other guy… “Yes he has.”

I hear ya... glad to hear they're alright.

Uninteresting magic games are good for off-topic conversation.

The game is still relatively close, it just feels like the Magic will win this one by 30+

you can hear the guys screaming to one another

“Give it back to Turkoglu!!” Make some noise, fans :(

by TheGiantSquid on Jan 13, 2009 10:38 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hah, that's awesome. Reminds me of a time in Cleveland when they sucked and Gary Payton (as a Sonic came to town).

A fan from the upper bowl was clearly heard saying ‘you suck’ to Payton when he was shooting free-throws, and he responded .. ‘so does your team’.

Classic Payton wit.

Yeah, they still love him here in Seattle.

Especially when he said that he will not have his number retired in OK.

Good stuff. I was always a Payton fan .. ditto with Kemp (before the yayo and all that).

Stupid white power .. if it wasn’t for that, Kemp would have been a Hall of Famer.

He was Amare before Amare ..

Something to look at over the break

This is Dwight’s free throw shooting since his infamous quote (not including tonight):

5-6 7-13 4-10 9-12

all in all?

25-41=61%

Should we care?

And why is it so different? Some games he has the stroke, and other’s he just doesn’t???
