Orlando Magic News for March 3rd: Don't Count Us Out Just Yet

The tubes have a case of the Mondays, and so do I. Ew.

  • Yahoo!'s Kelly Dwyer warns NBA observers not to overlook the Magic in the playoffs.

After appraising the value of Hedo Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, and Dwight Howard, Dwyer asserts:

So the stage is set. The run is possible. Van Gundy has inherited his predecessor's insistence on moaning about his point-guard tandem at every given opportunity, but things could be worse. J.J. Redick could use a few more minutes per game, but it's hard to argue with the league's fourth-best offense. The cohesion on both ends of the floor will likely improve as the season drones on and Van Gundy's pleas become more and more familiar.

All it takes is an inspired run to end the season, and the Magic -- great in the one position (low-post center) Boston and Detroit are not -- could find themselves a worthy conference finalist come June.

A reasonable post that rebuts, though certainly not intentionally (like Dwyer reads this site), this post I made on Friday.

  • Brian Schmitz wants to see more of Hedo Turkoglu running the point in the playoffs. He also wants Turk to try defending Chauncey Billups Jose Calderon, which is something I'd rather not see. (thanks to 3QC reader Shadow for the reading-comprehension assist)
  • I made a few cosmetic changes to the site this morning, which is why I'm a bit burned-out. There's now a Special Pages section on the right-hand side of the main page, which contains links to highlights, midseason grades, and the infuriating list of Players Who Have Thoroughly Embarrassed Us. More changes may be coming as I try to spruce things up a bit. Stay tuned.

You da man

First off I want to say that this site is great. Your content has improved noticeably since I began reading at the beginning of the season, and it was good even then. Also, your opinion is compelling and insightful.

As for Turk playing the point; I think that is a great development! It would allow Nelson to take his more offensive mindset and thrive with it. It also just creates another match up problem for teams to deal with.

I also agree 100% with Dwyer that J.J. could use more minutes, as well as this team being a dark horse to win the east. I think the dark horse crown is between Orlando, Toronto and Cleveland and that the Magic are in the best position to capitalize.
